Sonilo Raises $11M to Build Generative Audio for the AI Video Era

Sonilo, founded by former TikTok AI and music executives, raised $11M led by B Capital to scale its generative audio Sound World Model.

TikTok's AI alumni bet on sound

Sonilo, a San Francisco generative audio startup, has raised $11 million in a funding round led by B Capital, with participation from Redpoint, reported October 13. The company was founded by former TikTok AI and music division executives — CEO Shawn Song, CTO Alex Yin, COO Keli Li, and CMO Trista Taylor.

Sonilo's technology is a multimodal "Sound World Model" that analyzes video frame by frame and generates music and sound effects tuned to the visuals. The new capital goes toward the heavy compute the model requires, expanding the company's presence on creator and developer platforms, and building out a music licensing business.

Why generative audio is heating up

Video generation has grabbed the headlines, but sound is the missing half of AI media. Creators, production teams, and AI video developers all need soundtracks and effects that match their visuals — historically an expensive, manual process of licensing stock music or hiring composers.

Sonilo's bet is that audio generation is ready for the same inflection video went through: good enough quality, fast enough turnaround, and cheap enough to change how content gets made. A founding team from TikTok's AI and music divisions brings exactly the right DNA — they have seen how music drives short-form content at planetary scale.

The licensing angle matters too. Rather than just selling a generation tool, Sonilo is building a music licensing business on top — a model that could sidestep the copyright friction that has slowed generative audio startups. That matters for enterprise buyers who need legal certainty, not just creative output.

What this means for your business

1. AI media is becoming multi-sensory. If you use AI video for marketing or content, audio is the next layer to automate. Budget for it in your content production planning. 2. Licensing models beat pure generation. Sonilo's licensing play suggests the winners in generative media will be the ones that solve rights, not just quality. When evaluating AI media vendors, ask how they handle licensing and indemnity. 3. Content velocity keeps compounding. Generative audio removes another production bottleneck. Marketing teams that build AI media pipelines now — video plus audio — will produce at a pace competitors cannot match manually.

The bottom line: sound is the next frontier in AI-generated media. If your brand makes video content, the audio layer is about to get much cheaper and much faster.
