Procuros raises €20M to make B2B trade work for autonomous AI agents

Supply chains still run on infrastructure from the fax era. Purchase orders arrive as PDFs, spreadsheets, and occasionally actual faxes, and teams manually key in data, chase documents, and fix errors. Hamburg-based Procuros closed a €20 million Series A on October 6 to replace that mess with AI-native connectivity — and to make B2B trade ready for autonomous AI agents.

The round was led by XAnge, with grocery-retailer-backed W23 Global joining as a new investor and Point Nine, Creandum, SquareOne, b2venture, and angel investors returning. Total funding now stands at €34 million, earmarked for platform development and expansion of its trading network beyond Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, plus a push into the US.

### Connect once, trade with everyone

Procuros's pitch is simple: instead of building point-to-point EDI integrations that take months per trading partner, companies connect once to Procuros and the platform handles translation, validation, and routing to every partner — whatever system or format they run. More than 300 companies already use the platform, moving over €3 billion in annualized order volume, with named customers including Breuninger, Chefs Culinar, KoRo, flaconi, The Quality Group, and Hitschler.

Crucially, the platform creates a common data layer that AI agents can access directly. The company frames it as infrastructure for autonomous supply chains: clean, validated transaction data that agents can act on without human intermediaries re-keying documents.

### Why investors bet against EDI

B2B trade still depends on electronic data interchange connections and manual workarounds never designed for software agents to operate on autonomously. Gartner forecasts that AI agents will intermediate over $15 trillion in B2B purchases by 2028 — a forecast that only works if the data agents touch is clean, structured, and trustworthy.

### What this means for your business

Your data infrastructure determines what your agents can do. Agents are only as capable as the systems they run on. Practical takeaways:

- Audit your order-to-invoice flow. Map every place a human re-keys, re-formats, or re-sends a document. Each one is a cost center and an agent's future job. - Standardize partner data now. If your suppliers and customers send documents in five formats, clean that up before you deploy purchasing agents — garbage in, garbage out, at machine speed. - Suppliers that can't integrate cleanly risk losing preferred status. Retailers increasingly favor partners whose systems exchange data reliably. Connectivity is becoming a competitive feature, not an IT chore. - Watch the agent-commerce layer. Infrastructure like Procuros is the rails; the agents that negotiate, order, and reconcile on top of it are the next wave of enterprise software to evaluate.
