ONLYOFFICE 10.0 Adds Context-Aware AI Tools and AI Agents to Its Open-Source Office Suite
ONLYOFFICE 10.0 launched Oct 10 with context-aware AI inside every editor, free modular AI Agents apps, and major security upgrades across the open-source office suite.
ONLYOFFICE has released version 10.0, the major autumn update to its open-source office suite, announced October 10 via PR Newswire. The release puts context-aware AI directly inside the document, spreadsheet, presentation, and PDF editors, adds modular AI-powered apps, and ships a significant security upgrade. The update packs around 50 new features and more than 1,000 fixes across online, desktop, and mobile editors.
AI that works inside the document
The headline change is a dedicated AI tab with built-in chat in every editor. Teams can draft, summarize, translate, clean, and format without leaving the file or copying content into a separate tool. Ready-made prompts, custom AI actions, assistants, and saved prompts help teams streamline workflows and automate routine tasks.
Practical examples from the announcement: legal teams can summarize contracts, analysts can generate forecasts or pivot tables, and managers can turn ideas into structured presentations, all inside the document. Organizations control how AI is used, choosing models based on quality, speed, and cost. Cloud users can enable ONLYOFFICE AI via OpenRouter, while server deployments can connect any model, including local ones, keeping sensitive data within their own infrastructure.
New modular apps
The release introduces four free apps that extend ONLYOFFICE Docs, released under AGPL v3. AI Agents automate the workspace with intelligent search, a personalized knowledge base, and extended reasoning, powered by MCP servers. Forms streamlines data collection and response analysis. Files centralizes document storage with access controls. Rooms supports secure collaboration, including virtual data rooms for confidential content. In the cloud the apps are on by default; on servers a single command installs them.
What this means for your business
First, in-document AI is the new baseline. If your team's productivity suite still forces users to copy text into a separate AI tool, the workflow tax is becoming a competitive disadvantage. Look for editors where AI acts on the document in place, with your data staying inside your infrastructure.
Second, model choice is a cost lever. ONLYOFFICE letting organizations pick models by quality, speed, and cost reflects where the market is going: AI features are commodities, and the differentiator is controlling which model runs each task. Build your AI budget around per-task model routing, not a single expensive default.
Third, open-source office suites are catching up fast. For organizations watching license costs, version 10.0 narrows the feature gap with the major paid suites while adding AI agents under AGPL. Run a genuine evaluation before your next renewal: the savings from switching may now fund the AI tooling you wanted anyway.
